Louise Bell, principal of FHS when the school was voluntarily integrated in 1954.
Feriba McNair, former teacher, coach, and longtime school board member. She also started the FHS Girls Golf program.
Dr. Mitzi Kuroda, FHS alumna and Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School.

The Woodland Junior High Quiz Bowl team won first place in the AR Governor's Quiz Bowl Association state tournament held Saturday at Lake Hamilton School District. The team is coached by Patricia Dennis-McClung. Sumedh Kalyankar was the high point winner for the tournament. Ramay Junior High Quiz Bowl team won third place in the tournament and is coached by Larry Schirling. Congrats to all!

Staff Spotlight! Meet Mrs. Betty Metcalf, a paraprofessional at Butterfield Trail Elementary for 27 years. Mrs. Betty enjoys building relationships with students, finding out what they are most interested in, and then figuring out how to serve them best. She loves discovering students' talents because everyone has a gift, they just have to find it. Mrs. Betty also has a passion for gardening! She works tirelessly in the Butterfield school garden with students growing many types of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and plants! Thank you, Mrs. Betty!

Holt Middle School recently unveiled their Outdoor Volleyball court with a GRAND OPENING! The project is a joint-use partnership between the Boys and Girls Club and the Holt PTO. Members of the State Champion FHS Volleyball team joined Holt students as they enjoyed playing on the new all-weather surface.

ALLPS School of Innovation held its Black History Month Kickoff on Monday, January 31 with a student assembly to announce the schedule for February. DJ Derrick then provided the music for dancing and learning some new steps, and Superintendent Dr. John L Colbert joined the ALLPS students and staff in dancing.

Fayetteville is hosting the 2022 Walmart UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships and welcoming the world to Northwest Arkansas! Due to the winter weather, road conditions, and power outages, Fayetteville Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 18, and Friday, February 19 for snow days (no virtual learning). All buildings will be closed, and all activities are canceled.
In order to meet the state requirement for 178 student contact days, the school year will now be extended through Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

During Spring Break, FPS Child Dept. will provide free breakfast & lunch meals at the Owl Creek School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mon, - Fri. Breakfast & lunch can be picked up at the same time. Meals are free to anyone 18 and younger. The child must be present to receive a meal.

The FPS Outback food pantry is open DAILY this week from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to provide groceries to families. We normally provide non-perishable food items and frozen meat, but due to recent donations, we are now able to add fresh fruit, lettuce, bread, and eggs to the food boxes.
Since next week is Spring Break, we will be giving double boxes on Friday, March 20.
The Outback is accessible to families by two different public transit bus routes and is located at 2350 Old Farmington Rd. in Fayetteville on the ALLPS campus.

Superintendent Dr. John L Colbert was inducted into the 2020 Hall of Fame at the 74th Southwestern Regional Convention of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for his 45 years of Service in developing leaders, promoting brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities. Krosoczka as part of the True Lit Festival sponsored by the Fayetteville Public Library. He spoke to students in the Bulldog Arena and Performing Arts Center and also led a writing workshop.
